Research

My research interests are relatively diverse, but largely empirical in nature.

Creativity

Definitional issues, taxonomy and measurement models, measurement tools, in relation to individual differences, recruitment of creative people, in relation to Trait Emotional Intelligence, madness/genius debate and much more besides.  Regular co-researchers include Adrian Furnham, Thomas Chamorro-Premuzic add Dino Petrides.

Individual Differences

Cognitive abilities (especially divergent thinking), personality structure and measurement and emotional self-efficacy, competencies and the structure of motivation.  I have started a project examining the relations between major models of individual differences with Tom Booth.

Subclinical Psychopathologies

The structure of multidimensional schizotypy.  Examination of the relationship between hypomania/schizotypy/dark side traits and performance.  I am working on a cross-cultural research project examining mental health and science with Professor Greg Feist.  I have a particular interest in how “spiky” personality constellations can at once be predictive of mental illness, organisational derailment or genius!

Music preference and consumption

Together with MSc students I have begun investigations of personality traits in relation to music genre preferences and consumption attitudes.

Consumer Psychology and Internet 2.0

I am actively looking to recruit students to research in these areas.  I have initiated studies looking at social networking, in particular Twitter usage and personality.

I am interested in supervising research for undergraduates, graduates and PhD students.
